Product Description

UHMWPE also known as high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) or High performance polyethylene (HPPE) is a thermoplastic which has extremely long chains and high molecular weight, resulting in a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. It is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, extremely low moisture absorption, extremely low coefficient of frication, self lubricating and highly resistant to abrasion, and has much longer usage lifecycle. Its coefficient of friction is significantly lower than that of nylon and acetal, and is comparable to teflon, but UHMWPE has better abrasion resistance than teflon. It is odorless, tasteless, and nontoxic. This gives a strength/weight ratio as much as 15 times stronger than steel and up to 40% stronger than Aramid.

UHMWPE fibre is used in bulletproof vests for its composite material strength in all directions; In bow strings, climbing equipment, spear lines for spearguns, suspension lines on sport parachutes for its high strength, low frication and low weight and bulk; In fishing line, rigging in yachting high performance sails for its highly resistant to corrosion, abrasion and low frication; Is a preferred materials for ski and snowboard, kites and kites lines for kites sports, and high-end Wakeboard line for its characteristics of self lubricating, abrasive to absorb and retain wax. UHMWPE also gains increasingly popularity in machine and automation parts, oil and coal transportation pipeline for its extremely low frication coefficient. UHMWPE has a successful biomaterial for use in hip, knee, and most recently for spine implants and rapidly become the standard of care for total hip replacements.
